Custom Caliper

I don’t know how much interest there will be in this specialty tool. I modifies a plastic caliper to quickly measure the pavilion depth/height. There are times when you are trying to maximize the stone size where the overall depth/height is the restricting factor. Locating the girdle with the girdle facets may not be possible by cutting to a temporary center point. This modified caliper help to measure the pavilion depth/height. How much pavilion depth/height you need can be calculated based on your stones width. You must also watch your overall height of the stone.

You can make a quick and easy version using a standard caliper and some tape along on jaw. Carefully mark the tape. Below are some pictures of the modified plastic caliper.
